A third-generation rail executive and entrepreneur, Richard D. Bertel is Founder, Chairman, and Chief Executive Officer of Rio Grande Pacific Corporation (RGPC), a Fort Worth-based railroad holding company that owns and operates regional freight and transit railroads, along with engineering, construction, heavy manufacturing and technology subsidiaries serving the domestic rail industry.

Mr. Bertel leading transformative projects in short-line and regional railroad development, financial turnarounds, mergers and acquisitions, and Greenfield infrastructure initiatives both across the United States and internationally. He is also the founder of a global civil engineering consultancy specializing in heavy-haul railway systems, serving clients on five continents.
Mr. Bertel earned his Bachelor of Arts from Texas Wesleyan University and his MBA from Texas Christian University.
Mr. Bertel’s philanthropic efforts are rooted in practical compassion and long-term community benefit. His actions reflect a deep commitment to improving lives and the stewardship of God given blessings received over his career and a lifetime of service. He is especially passionate about pursuits that promote initiative, dignity, access, and resilience—values that resonate deeply with the mission of Baylor Scott & White All Saints Medical Center – Fort Worth.
A champion of both innovation and compassion, Mr. Bertel has served on the Baylor Scott & White All Saints Health Foundation Board since 2019, contributing his leadership and vision to support the organization’s mission.
Richard and his wife Connie are parents to four adult children and six grandchildren and enjoy ranching, equestrian activities and international travel.
