Transplant patients can face many challenges. For patients who don’t live near the transplant center, they have an additional challenge of where to stay while preparing for the procedure and during recovery. Twice Blessed house provides affordable housing for transplant patients and their caregivers during the evaluation process and post-transplant period.
More than 100,000 people in the United States today are waiting for an organ transplant. Many candidates for transplant wait years until an organ becomes available, and every ten minutes, another person is added to the waiting list.
The Annette C. and Harold C. Simmons Transplant Institute at Baylor Scott & White All Saints Medical Center - Fort Worth is an internationally renowned destination for transplant care. We have performed more than 475 liver transplants and 1,350 kidney transplants, making us the highest volume center in Fort Worth. Many patients come from as far away as Lubbock and Amarillo for care at Baylor Scott & White All Saints Medical Center, as we are the closest transplant center to West Texas.
The cost associated with travel and lodging can be an additional hardship on families as many are already challenged economically from the costs associated with their disease. Patients and patient families who live more than 50 miles from Baylor Scott & White All Saints Medical Center are eligible to stay at Twice Blessed House.
Our eight Twice Blessed House units offer patients and their caregivers a warm, friendly, comfortable place to stay during the transplant evaluation process and while recovering after surgery. Guests pay $50 per night and financial assistance is available for patients who meet the financial assistance requirements. The nightly charge covers only 20% of the cost to rent and maintain these units, with the remaining requiring philanthropic support. Our goal is to make our patients' transplant experience as comfortable, supportive and affordable as possible.
