The Arts in Medicine program at Baylor Scott & White All Saints Medical Center integrates music and the performing arts to promote healing and enhance the lives of our patients, their families, visitors and caregivers. It also builds on community partnerships around the arts, health and medicine.
Made possible by philanthropic funding, Artists-in-Residence offer musical performances in common areas around the Baylor Scott & White All Saints campus. This program integrates professional artists into the healthcare setting to promote the general well-being, distraction and stress-reduction for patients, families, visitors and clinical and support staff. Our Artists-in-Residence played over 300 hours at in common areas of All Saints last year.
Music Therapy uses research-based music interventions to support social, emotional, physical, cognitive and sensory needs. Like occupational and physical therapists, music therapists set up unique therapeutic goals for each patient and may see a patient regularly until a goal is reached. In addition to playing music for a patient, a music therapist may also sing, facilitate a patient to play music, or work with a patient to write music or songs. Music therapists must have completed either a bachelor's or master's degree in music therapy and have a music therapist (MT-BC) certification.

As these services are provided at no cost to patients and are not billable services, philanthropic support has enabled us to create and sustain this program.
