Positive purpose: Ralph and Dee Faxel

Ralph Faxel is, without a doubt, the epitome of someone who knows the importance of compassionate, skilled nurses when it comes to high quality health care. Mr. Faxel told us, “My late wife and I know first-hand because we have benefited from the loving care offered by the nurses here in this outstanding institution – Baylor Scott & White All Saints – Fort Worth. With the ever-changing face of the health care industry, it is imperative that we maintain this level of care. I personally thank God that we have been fortunate enough to be in a position where we can offer support for this tremendous team here at Baylor All Saints.”

Ralph’s wife, the late Dee Faxel, told us in 2002, “All Saints has been a part of my life and my family’s life for many years. My mother, Alba Wiley, served thousands of hours volunteering at All Saints Hospital. Her favorite place was the emergency room. We called her “Old Blood & Guts.” She would arrive at the hospital around 4:00 a.m. When I admonished her for leaving home so early, she informed me that she couldn’t sleep – so there was no reason to wait for dawn and she was going! I didn’t fuss at her anymore. During that time, she was awarded the title of Senior Citizen of Fort Worth.”

When Ralph was hospitalized last year, we realized the need for qualified nurses. Those on duty did not have time to give needed care to the patients – not enough nurses and too much blasted paperwork!

After seeing the results of the nursing shortage, we established the Faxel Endowment Fund for additional education for our existing nursing staff, and to recruit additional qualified and compassionate candidates.”

Today, in 2020, the Faxel Fund is legendary among the nurses at Baylor All Saints. The Faxel Fund is unique in that it supports our dedicated nurses in their pursuit of their educational endeavors. These nurses have answered a higher calling – to care for all of us – and we could not be more grateful to the Faxels for their generosity and legacy.
