Transforming birth care

According to Tarrant County Public Health, Tarrant County has the second-highest maternal mortality rate among ethnically diverse women in Texas, with many mothers expressing a desire to be active participants in their care, receive more support after childbirth, and gain a clearer understanding of the full continuum of care from pregnancy through delivery.

Baylor Scott & White All Saints Medical Center, along with other community partners, is working with the Tarrant County Maternal & Infant Health Coalition, developed by Mayor Mattie Parker’s office, to change our processes and better meet the needs of our most vulnerable patient population.

Baylor Scott & White – Fort Worth is proud to be the first hospital in the BSW Health system and among the first in Texas to implement TeamBirth, a groundbreaking initiative designed to improve communication, safety, and respect in childbirth. Developed by Ariadne Labs’ Delivery Decisions Initiative, TeamBirth is transforming how maternity care is delivered nationwide—and now, right here in Fort Worth.

“TeamBirth will enhance the quality, safety, and dignity of care for birthing families in our community,” said Charles Williams, president of Baylor Scott & White – Fort Worth. “Andrews Women’s Hospital takes great pride in being part of a family’s birth experience. So, it makes sense that we want to ensure the best possible care during that important time in their lives.”

TeamBirth places the person giving birth at the center of every care decision. It strengthens communication between patients, families, and clinical teams through transparent, shared decision-making, fostering trust and improving outcomes for mothers and babies alike.

At its core, TeamBirth is about reliable, respectful care for every patient, every time. The model ensures that labor and delivery are guided by inclusive teamwork, shared accountability, and a commitment to dignity, safety, and equity.

With Fort Worth and Dallas leading the way as the first Texas markets to implement TeamBirth, we are setting a new standard in maternity care—one that ensures every birth is met with compassion, coordination, and excellence.

Together, we are creating a future where every birth is a moment of safety, dignity, and joy.
